Cindy Sherman

I really enjoyed browsing through Cindy Sherman's "Untitled Film Stills" collection.  The one that struck me the most was the one above because for some reason it reminds me of my Grandmother and her sister.  I read that most characters in the series are made up, but we still get some kind of feeling of recognition when we look at the stills.  That is how I feel here.  I feel like I recognize this particular event and am drawn to it because of that recognition.

Jeff Wall

"A natural form...is an expression of infinitesimal metamorphoses of quality."  -Jeff Wall 
I find that statement to be particularly true in the case of "Milk" shown above.  I agree with Wall to the highest degree and am surprised I have never hear of him before today.  When I photograph I like to capture time and motion in nature and the natural form of anything, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful forms out there.

Teun Hocks

I very much enjoyed looking at the work of Teun Hocks.  He uses black and white photographs to start out with and then he manipulates them by hand with a combination of toner and transparent oil paint.  When it comes to his relationship with what we are discussing in class I find him to be a perfect example of how you can manipulate a photograph weather it be with your own hand or with another tool such as the computer.

Gregory Crewsdon

I was very intrigued by the work of Gregory Crewsdon.  In his photographs the viewer is given no clue as to what went in the time before and after the photograph was taken.  This is especially true, I think, in the photograph above.  There are so many different scenarios that could have gone on to lead up to this moment that it is almost impossible to figure out what scenario would be the correct one.  And in order to know what happened after this picture was taken you need to be able to figure out what happened before hand.  I am impressed with the mystery the emits from this particular photo and most of his other work as well.
